Continue ReadingIn the interest of showing some of the experiments going on lately, I thought I would post this board I made a few months back. It’s made from polypropylene foam and oiled paulownia wood. That’s it. I wanted to make a board without fiberglass and thought a combination of boogie board and alaia would work well. It ended up being a little heavy and dead feeling. I like the concept though and I’m going to keep working on it. How did the maiden voyage on this one go? Let’s just say it didn’t go down so well. photo RT
Continue ReadingJust finished this board for a local customer. It’s their first custom board and they wanted a fun type shape that would be light, maneuverable, and last a long time. We agreed the Openface type construction would work well for this. Dimensions are 7’0″ x 21″ x 2 3/4″. Thanks for the order Josette.
Continue ReadingOne neat thing about alaias is as you get better at riding them you can simply hack them down and reshape them for fancier surfing. I recently had an alaia brought back to me for reshaping. The board at top, modeled by the owner Adam Walker, is the reduced version of his original shape, modeled enthusiastically by my daughter Avery below. On a side note, Adam has a ecelctic and interesting blog thats worth checking out.
